Andy Carey
Executive Director Andy Carey is the Executive Director of the U.S.-Mexico Border Philanthropy Partnership (BPP), serving a network of nearly 400 organizations that builds prosperity through leadership, collaboration, and philanthropy in the U.S.-Mexico Border region. Previously, Andy led volunteer mobilization and fund development at Kiwanis International. Andy is an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of San Diego in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences where he teaches post-graduate courses on International nonprofit management. He was named 2017-18 Adjunct Faculty of the Year by the Dean of the School of Leadership and Education Sciences. Andy serves in many civic capacities including, Chairman of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Advisory Committee, U.S.-Mexico Science Foundation Board of Directors, University of San Diego Kroc School of Peace and Justice Advisory Board, Independent Districting Commission in Escondido, CA., and on the Advisory Board of St. Mary Catholic School in Escondido. In 2018, Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Relations presented Andy with the Ohtli Award, in recognition of his long-standing commitment and service to the needs and interests of the Mexican community residing in the United States of America. María Laura Muñoz
Representative, Mexico María Laura Muñoz has over 25 years nonprofit experience, serving as executive director of the Junta de Asistencia Privada del Estado de Chihuahua, the state government agency that supports the nonprofit sector; as director of development and nonprofit strengthening at FECHAC, and in development and programs for several nonprofit organizations in Chihuahua, Juárez and El Paso. She was part of the team that developed the first nonprofit resource center in México; led teams of academics that conducted the first research projects to diagnose the state of the nonprofit sector in Chihuahua, co-authored reports about nonprofits, and coordinated multiple conferences and other events to strengthen nonprofit organizations. She founded and served as the first Board Chair of the local AFP chapter. She has developed and delivering training sessions on fundraising, governance and communications for local and national audiences. She holds a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Texas at El Paso, where she graduated with Honors, and certifications as a Nonprofit Board Consultant from BoardSource, and as a trainer with Procura and The Fund-Raising School, Indiana University. Celith Bañuelos Luna
Senior Project Director As the Senior Project Director, Celith has over 10 years of experience in being responsible for overseeing the successful planning and completion of BPP’s binational charitable and membership programs. She has participated in committees that have achieved cross-border collaboration among prestigious universities and academic centers in the San Diego-Tijuana border region. She graduated from Universidad Iberoamericana with a Business degree and a master’s in education and is working on completing a Project Management Certification. Contact information: M. Berta Garcia
Accountant Berta joined the BPP in 2015 as the accountant for Alianza Fronteriza de Filantropía, A.C. (AFF) in México. She is experienced in material and human resource management, budgeting, accounting, and taxes. Berta currently provides accounting services to a broad portfolio of individuals, businesses and nonprofits in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. |
Chandra Lukes
Accountant
Chandra, CPA graduated from the University of Redlands in 2015. She has 10 years of experience in auditing, accounting, and tax preparation for various San Diego County non-profit organizations. In addition to serving BPP Chandra is also the Director of Accounting at San Diego Foundation. Chandra volunteers as a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs of America and has raised 3 puppies to date.
