Growing Philanthropic Capacity, Leadership and Collaboration in the Border Region
BPP members and supporters along the border and across the US and Mexico are making great strides in nurturing more vibrant and healthy communities. Since its launch in 2002 BPP members have:
- Increased the assets available to address border issues by $230 million
- Mobilized nearly $20 million toward the organizational strengthening of border foundations and investment in border communities;
- Developed a network of border foundations and funders who collaborate across and along the border, addressing quality of life issues more holistically and systematically.
- Created new community philanthropy organizations in five border communities, organizations that embrace their role as catalysts, as leaders on topics like youth, poverty, the environment, and health.
- Put money into the pockets of low- income families through their work in the Frontera Family Asset Building Coalition. In 2006 border states garnered over $45 million in federal tax refunds, up from $17 million in 2005, due to foundation support of community coalitions targeted on this goal.
- Increasingly collaborated with one another on local and regional issues
